Not sure if Eva has ever been to the Caribbean... 9/4/2010

We read so many reviews before choosing this place to dine. We frequent Laguna Beach at least once a year and have always had amazing food. Let me tell you how THIS particular evening went........\r \r We show up @ 5:10, when they open at five. We say there are two of us for dinner- the chef herself seats us & says that they have someone w/reservations coming in for that table at 7, so we have to be done by then. Okay, sure, we can do that. We order the conch fritters- they are extremely crispy and runny in the middle. We ordered the brown suga signature cocktail- good & verrry sweet. Hubby has a mojito for the next round- it has not been muddled- it tastes as though someone poured rumplemints w/rum & threw in a few mint leaves in for decoration. Sooo not Caribbean! The fish of the day was Snapper- totally covered in curry sauce- thank God we like curry. The jerk rib eye was very mediocre (my hubby can cook a better steak). It was better, only when dipped in the snapper's curry sauce. We decided to order Key Lime Pie for dessert. It was frozen lime sorbet w/mint shavings for garnish, on a pie crust. It tasted more like a mojito pie than key lime pie. We went to Key West earlier this year, so authenticity was fresh in our minds, but it seems that Eva has never been to the Caribbean... If she has, she hasn't learned any authentic recipes. Not a horrible place, but for 122 before tip, we were not satisfied with the mediocre offerings and renditions of Caribbean recipes. more

Good Bread 7/18/2009

I was so disappointed by the service and the quality of food in this restaurant. I ordered the Mahi Mahi special and it was not only cold but the only flavor you could taste was the fruitty sauce on the mahi mahi...absolutely not seasoned...had to ask for salt. Another person at the table ordered Curry Chicken and it was the worst curry chicken ever...looked like the chicken was grilled separately and then added to the curry sauce very chewy chicken. Even the fried bannana was not good....too cold and too much rum.... our bill was over $100 for 4 dishes!!!! Not worth it at all. Pros: Before Dinner Bread Was Great Cons: Food Had No Salt and Was Cold more

COME AND RELAX AT EVA'S 4/3/2008

There is a slice of heaven in Laguna Beach right on South Coast Hwy, and it is called Eva's Caribbean Kitchen. You will instantly feel relaxed by the cozy atmosphere and the rhythm of island music gently flowing. And when Eva comes to greet you with love and warmth, you will know you are in for quite a treat. A must try is the house special, Conch Fritters. An explosion of flavors will tantalize your taste buds. Next are fresh entrees with authentic Caribbean flavors. And for the finale, the ""Evamade"" Banana Passion Flambe, prepared at your table, is the best desert EVER!!. And the fun doesn't stop there. Eva's carries over a 100 different rums from Nepal to Antigua. So go now and unwind at Eva's. Pros: everything more

Best Rum drinks anywhere!!! 8/24/2007

Eva's is a sweet cozy spot right on PCH in South Laguna. If you are looking for the best rum cocktails on the planet... this is where you want to be! Not to mention, the food is exquisite! The fresh mango mojitos are worth the trip alone. My favorite cocktail is the brown suga. The fresh seabass melts in your mouth and th conch fritters is a specialty of Eva's that no other recipe can compare. \r \r The atmosphere here is awesome! I like sitting on the patio enjoying the sunset while listening to the live steel drums or reggae music. Even better at night when surrounded by colorful candles and the artful masks displayed on the walls. Plus, Eva is always around with a warm greeting. \r \r The best restaurant in the OC! Pros: Ambience, Service Cons: Parking more

Delicious Carribean Cuisine 12/23/2006

The food and drinks are fabulous at this restaurant! The curried seafood dishes are my favorite. I loved the decor and ambience-very warm and colorful. Though we made reservations (which I hightly recommend) there was a wait, but the host was as pleasant as possible. Prepare to be on ""Island Time."" Definitely a place to take friends or date after enjoying the sunset on the beach. Pros: great food and decor Cons: wait time more

THE BEST AND TRULY AUTHENTIC ...EVA IS AROUND ..SO SAY HELLO! 10/25/2006

When I moved to Laguna Beach, I passed Eva's a few times and finally stopped to see why the place was always busy. I found out that its worth going out of your way for great food! I must admit that I was a novice in my experience of eating Caribbean foods, but now I can't have enough. The OC is lucky to have this place still around after so many years....I try something different every time I visit..and I am always satisfied.....leave room for dessert! I've always been welcomed with a smile, and the staff is attentive...feel free to ask for advice if you are not famililar with the menu....I did and was impressed that the staff knew so much! Pros: FOOD Cons: PARKING more

Welcome to the Garden of Eva 4/29/2006

Welcome to the Garden of Eva a Caribbean adventure! My favorites: Cocktails: brown suga/pomegranate martini Appetizer: punani shrimp/cra cakes Entree: Chilean Sea Bass/curry shrimp Desert: Chocolate Bread Pudding a la mode/key lime pie martini Saturdays-steal drum musician. Call in the day before for a reservation. Dress is casual-a great date place. Eva truly enjoys food and drink and it shows. You need a few hours to truly soak this place in. If you wait a few minutes to be seated and your food takes a little longer than a chain resturaunt, remember that Eva is still on Caribbean time and you should be too. Go to the Garden of Eva and enter in to a world of flavors that will leave you ""feelin good mon"". Pros: food quality is aweso, service is good, atmosphere is fun Cons: longer wait for food, need reservatio on WE more
