The tiny sign is barely visible as you drive onto the 10 freeway southbound off of Vincent Ave. I had always seen it for years as I drove from the shopping center. Little did I know that in this small, unassuming strip mall there stands the BEST BBQ joint in the San Gabriel Valley! Hungry Al's is easily overlooked, nestled among insurance offices and other small businesses. The interior is pretty barebones as well, but there are tables for those eating on the go. The food is truly remarkable, and the sweet, smokey scent of the meat will definitely get your cravings revved. The pork spareribs are huge and meaty, and the meat falls off the bone. The baby back ribs are sensational as well. The links are some of the best I've ever had, tender and flavorful, not tough like some other BBQ places. I love throwing some of the delicious link slices in with the amazing BBQ beans. The BBQ chicken is a real winner here! First of all, the sheer SIZE of the pieces is incredible. The huge, plump legs looked more like turkey legs than chicken! But the flavor was definitely some of the best BBQ chicken I've ever had - tender and juicy, swimming in the spicy flavor of the glazed sauce. The potato salad and collard greens accented the meat nicely. Hungry Al's takes full advantage of their smoke pit, with BBQ turkey on the menu! They even offer to smoke your own Turkeys and Hams! I remember Norm Calvin used to offer this service at his old Rib Factory restaurant in Norwalk! It's a great idea for special occasions or holiday dinners. Hungry Al's is a must for BBQ lovers who decide on quality and flavor versus ""ambience"". Pros: Generous portions of quality meat, delicious side dishes Cons: There are tables, but it's really a take out place...hard to find...small parking lot
