What can I say about my last couple of experiences. I thought I would give Masalaa another try and went to lunch yesterday with a friend. Walked into the restaurant. Was greeted by the manager/supervisor with a feeble attempt at a smile. Like the last time, we were not offered a menu, though all we wanted as a masala dosa. The manager insisted that the buffet would be the best choice, though we were not in the mood to eat a heavy meal. Dosa is included in the meal, he added. ANd this happened during a prior visit as well. We picked our own table and sat down. Water was not served, rather there were a couple of steel cups with a pitcher of water. So be prepared to pour your own water. \r

So we checked out the buffet line. Looked interesting. Large idlies that had dried out in the heat of the warmer that looked far from appetizing. A couple of vegetarian curries, biryani, plain rice, rasam sambar, fried bread (small bhatura triangles). The cold section looked unappetizing from the start. Masalaa - a word of adive, you don;t need to serve a salad if you DON'T KNOW how to. A bowl of a lettuce salad, looking sad and brown, a couple of chutneys, tamarind and mint chutneys, curd rice, and some king of kheer. \r

I did sample a little bit of everything. I will not say all the food was bad. The good items were the Potato 65, the rasam (hot and spicy), an onion masala curry, and a south indian style kootu with coconut. The others were average to below average. The veggie biryani was terrible, sambar was average, a couple of other veggies below average.\r

Now Masalaa has also changed their plates - they have moved to thalis without any cups. Now everytime you want a refill of an item, ""you can take another plate"", the manager said. So if I want just a refill of a curry, I have to take an extra plate, rather than serving myself a smaller portion in a cup.\r
