I made reservations to eat at Capital Grille for the first time last night in honor of my son's 17th birthday as well to be able to take advantage of the extension of Houston Restaurant Week. The reservationist asked if we were celebrating a special occasion- which I informed her we were. Long story short, there were high and low points to our first visit with them:\r \r High points: \r 1) The ambiance is very elegant and the decor classic. 2) The kona crusted sirloin was cooked to perfection and very tasty, Sam's mashed potatoes were creamy and well seasoned and the creamed spinach was surprisingly very good. \r \r Low points:\r 1) Our waiter, Terry was not at all personable. He didn't feel the need to introduce himself to us, and was so nonchalant that until he returned to take our order, we thought he was only there to deliver the bread and fill the water glasses. Once we saw that he was indeed our server, I asked him for his name. We found ourselves envious of the excellent service that surrounding tables were receiving from their servers. \r 2) The clam chowder tasted exactly like the canned Campbell's version\r 3)The creme brulee was average at best. It was a bit too thick for our tastes. The version at Perry's Steakhouse is much better!\r 4) Our special occasion was never acknowledged. Not that I expected the servers to gather and present a rendition of ""Happy Birthday"", however, it still would have been nice for them to acknowledge the celebration in some way. \r \r All in all, we were pleased with the food, especially for the price. \r \r
