Review content:
I have been to Steubens a few times and each time, I have been impressed. The service was good and the decor was retro-trendy but what stands out most is the food. \r

We ordered a number of items and shared around the table. I would recommend the fried chicken because it was not too heavily-coated with batter and had some unique herb flavors. The mashed potatoes and biscuits were not necessarily inventive but very tasty. \r

The lobster roll, while pricey for a sandwich, was wonderful with large chunks of lobster and a simple mixture that really lets the lobster flavor dominate the dish. The chile rellano was different than any that I have had before- with creative spices and a rich red sauce. The mussel appetizer and the green chile were both typical but also very good. \r

However the cheese-steak sandwich was fantastic. The beef was sliced very thin and the cheese was very creamy. This may be the best cheese-steak sandwich I have had in Denver. The vinegrette salad dressing on the side salad was also worth noting. Lastly, the vanilla cupcakes are great. Simple and clean. They taste like the kind my mother used to make and reminded me of my childhood. \r

The menu is not outrageously creative but this upscale diner-type of restaurant serves feel-good food at reasonable prices. It is a hip take on classic American comfort food.
Pros: Comfort food, decent for kids, retro ambience
Cons: Parking, can be crowded
