What a huge disappointment!! I can't believe what happened to my family while dining at Mother's recently. My daughter was visiting from NYC with her boyfriend. He had never been to Buffalo before so we wanted to make the evening special. Mother's was on the top of our list of places to dine in Buffalo. We knew we could count on great food and service---wrong!!! I should also tell you that my daughter's boyfriend is a master sommelier and GM for a restaurant in NYC. A fact that made the following incident even more embarrassing.\r
When we arrived, we were seated in a corner booth under a speaker. At first it was no problem; music was ok, if a little loud. At some point, the music changed into very loud unrecognizable, bad rock music--we had to shout at each other in order to have a conversation. The ""host"" was standing next to me so I asked him if he could do something about the music. His response was classic--he smirked at me, and told me that at that particular hour the music changes and that it was ""just the nature of the beast""!!! Say what? After a few moments, I asked the ""host"" what could be done. I (foolishly) thought that asking for a little problem solving ability and customer service wouldn't be out of the question since we had already racked up a rather large tab. Well.....not as far as our ""host"" was concerned. He just smirked and said that he would see about turning down the volume. When I pointed out to him that no one really seemed to be enjoying the music or responding to it--- again...big smirk....no action. My daughter and I were really embarrased after all the bragging we did about the great dining and friendly service you could count on in our city. At that point, we didn't feel like lingering over coffee and dessert. I don't remember ever being treated in such a rude manner. We won't be back anytime soon. By the way, the food..... not so good...
