Review content:
Please read this review! I want to begin by saying I have never written a review for any hotel I have ever stayed at and my job requires me to travel a lot. However, I felt I must give my opinion on my experience at the Melia. I was in town for a conference where all the rooms at all other hotels were booked. After reading the reviews at this site, my nerves were so torn up, I actually went outside the city to secure a reservation just in case when I arrived the hotel/room was as bad as all the reviews. I arrived at 12 noon and I canceled my back up reservation at 12:30. Please keep in mind the hotel was sold out. This was my experience. I arrived to bell hops opening my door, assisting with my bags. I was able to check in early. Jason at the front desk gave me a brief overview of the city and things to do. There were a lot of people checking in and out, but plenty of help and did not have to wait for help. I went to my room. We are a family of four. We had a double standard room (that was all that was available when I made the reservations due to the conference being in town). Having 2 teenagers, we took a single blow up mattress. We had plenty of room! The room was CLEAN. The beds extremely COMFORTABLE. The internet WORKED. The room was FRESH. All the staff was extremely NICE and HELPFUL. We needed more towels - towels were brought within 15 minutes. We needed a blanket - it was there within 15 minutes. The room had a refrigerator and we asked for a microwave. It arrived within minutes of us calling about it. The room had a balcony and the view was OUTSTANDING! Yes, the parking is expensive but you are in downtown Atlanta! There was tape on some of the carpet in the hallways, but it was the same color as the carpet and frankly I would not have noticed it had I not read reviews about that. I did hear sirens but frankly no more than any big city. With the balcony door shut, the room was quiet. The pool was BEAUTIFUL and TRANQUIL. My teenagers used the fitness room and were pleased. We enjoyed lunch and dinner at the bar/lounge in the lobby. The food was DELICIOUS and no more pricey than any other restaurant around. And the lobby is beautiful by the way! The hotel is in walking distance to all the attractions: aquarium, Coke museum, CNN, etc. When we checked out, we had the same bell hop, Chris, as we did when we arrived. He was fantastic both times. We didn't have a long wait for our car (we did valet park for convenience). Chris loaded the car and we were off. I am a huge fan of Hilton properties. My next stop for the evening was a Hampton Inn. When we arrived, it was such a let down from the treatment we had received at the Melia (not anything out of the ordinary for the Hampon Inn. It's just not a higher end hotel). I don't know what people are expecting or what accomodations they are used to, but I can say I am extremely picky especially when it comes to cleanliness. I just did not see what others are complaining about. I couldn't have asked for a better experience. Don't be afraid of this property. Try it. For the money, you won't be disappointed.
