For Southern cooking in Portland, there's Roux and Bernie's Southern Bistro. Depending on your desire for flavor (Roux) or tradition (Bernie's), you?re guaranteed to side with one over the other. Consider them our version of Coke or Pepsi.\r \r But when you are tired of the front runners, you can always embrace RC. It's less expensive, more casual, and more adventurous. The Screen Door plate for 12.95 had my head spinning with delicious choices. But, I was still happy to have my fork tender pork served in bourbon sauce, whipped root vegetables, accompanied with slices of baked apples for 14.95. Our Dinner 10 group had a smattering of comments that ranged from ""great soup"" to ""disappointing sweet potato french fries."" All agreed that this was a good neighborhood restaurant, a solid third for Southern cooking in Portland.
