Review content:
The atmosphere of this place is great. This is the type of neighborhood place to grab a drink that LO has been waiting for. Unfortunately, the food ruins it. They are charging far too much for food that is way below par. My wife and I are huge fish and chips fans, so naturally that is what we ordered when we attended to grand opening of the new location. When you order fish and chips at most places, the portions are usually too much for one person. Given this, we usually will split a plate. Charging $16 for one order, we figured Maher's would be a similar situation. Just to be safe, we asked the waitress if the order was big enough to split - she confirmed that it was. What was served to us was a plate full of thick, soggy fries (the type you would get out of the frozen section at Safeway) and 3 very small pieces of fish. Not only did I come away still hungry, but I felt like I had been ripped off. My wife went back a few nights ago with some friends and was they were equally unimpressed with the food. To be fair, I like the surroundings enough that I will go back. I will just be sure to eat ahead of time so that I can enjoy the two things that are great about this place: the beer and atmosphere. .
