I typically avoid supporting big corporate chainstores that import most of their inventory from countries where sweatshops are the norm. I will have to say that after trying Dusty Strings (where despite the hype, I was never greeted even after trying guitars for half an hour), and American Music (where the selection was dismal, and the staff was also not attentive), Guitar Maniacs (THAT store is a joke), I stopped at Guitar Center to see what they had to offer (never having been to one). I will say that the attention I received here was far superior to all of the other stores. Attentive, helpful and friendly, with a decent selection of commercial guitars at competitive prices. I ultimately bought a hand made instrument privately, but it's worth mentioning these folks had knowledgeable and friendly staff.
