Review content:
My girlfriend and I eat out rather frequently, try to support local businesses and generally avoid the chain restaurants. But the owner/waitress of Hidalgo needs to get a clue. We ordered two of the pricier entrees (one of them a ""special"") and an order of chips and pico de gallo to start. Then she informs us that we ""have to order appetizers too"" because we brought our own beer.
Let's see - we've just ordered $45 of food, and would surely have given them the opportunity to gouge us on a second order of chips, but this disgusting woman felt the need to tell my girlfriend and I what we had to order to ""cover her expensive rent"" (her words). Appalled, we left, at my girlfriend's insistence.
I fully believe some of the other reviews that rave about the food, but can't believe that in a weak economy a restaurant would chase customers away like that. Considering that all that rent pays for their spot in an otherwise-empty strip mall in Delaware County, you'd think they would be a bit more welcoming to new customers.
Oh yeah - the owner also followed us outside with my half-finished bottle of Sierra Nevada that I had to leave on the table. ""YOU need to throw this out!!!"" she said, and left it on the ground in front of her own restaurant. Really classy!
