Review content:
In the world of potential, Taste is tops: it's in an area to be envied, the restaurant interior has something catchy about it and at glance the menu appears delectable. Unfortunately, potential is only the foundation for success...The restaurant calls its portions California plates, so appetizer sized plates known in Spain as tapas. I started with a cocktail and the Gorgonzola cheese tart. When a guy orders Gorgonzola and the waitress say ""excellent choice"" you certainly don't anticipate a semi-warm baked good void of the character that makes Gorgonzola a cheese star. The side chips were fried pita that were stale to sometimes stale and soggy. The tart was not bad in terms of taste, but wasn't special. I didn't taste much like Gorgonzola and while the waitress thought the choice excellent, i would rather have cut fresh Gorgonzola for at least there would have been bold predictability about it. I then had a shrimp spear and a steak spear. The steak was served on a skewer and was accompanied with a verde sauce that I identified as tomatillo. The steak was tender and the dipping sauce perfectly acidic and complimentary. The steak was the shining star of the night. I then enjoyed the shrimp spear, which was cooked perfectly and seasoned well. My big complaint is the dipping sauce was a flavored mayonnaise. Something seemed awfully awry when such a HEAVY sauce accompanied something so light. The sauce really made the plate a miss. Don't fret, like any good foody I find the drink an important accompaniment to any good meal. Remember that cocktail? Weak. The wine? They had a reasonable selection, but at the end of the day without pizazz in the food the wine seemed more like something additional to pay for...I quit after two! The oddity of the joint was everyone in there seemed to know the wait staff and it almost felt like there was a popular click and I was the odd one out...the odd one out with a class of 15 total people in the restaurant of course. In the end, 2 stars
Pros: Good area, reasonable atmosphere
Cons: Food, wait staff and complete lack of others
