Review content:
After reading how the computer hospital only charges you if you get your data back (as per their website) I thought it was a great option.
The first sign I missed was when their initial estimate was doubled. They said my data was especially difficult to recover and I believed them, now I'm thinking they might have been testing how badly I want it.
Anyway, I agreed to pay the amount (which was $400 which is a lot by my standards). I went to pick up my data it wasn't there, they took another week, called me to pick up it up, I went again, no luck. Long stroy short, it took about 4 visits before they were able to locate my data and give it to me, but that was not the end of my troubles.
They tested one file for me, which worked (I have about 1TB of data, so of course I could not test every file there, so I trusted their ""random sample""). I went home and tried to actually use the data and it turns out that only about 25% of my data was there, the rest of the files were all ""corrupt"" and would not open.
When I called them to complain that I would never have paid that much money if I knew that they only recovered 25% or that how much of the ""recovered"" data actually works was a risk I had to take myself, again, I would have not paid the money, I was told that their std for recovery is when the file ""shows an icon, ie is recognized by the program it was created in"" the fact that 75% of the files were empty or corrupt was not their problem and that I should have ""tested"" the 1TB of data before leaving if I had a concern.
Shame on them - as much of a scam as any other data recovery service!
