Review content:
Our dog had a femur fracture plated at WCPC. The plate/screws quickly failed. We took our dog back to WCPC and they splinted his femur with a very sketchy, poor looking splint. That splint quickly slid down his leg and the dog appeared to be in more pain. We took him back again for a second splint, and they put on another one that seemed to do little to immobilize his leg. During the second splint application, we never saw the vet, never got to talk to him, only the techs. We asked the techs if the doc saw him, and they said ""Yes, everything is fine"".
Our dog was miserable and getting worse, so we took him elsewhere to see an orthopedic specialist. The orthopedic doctor told us that WCPC had put in too small of a plate, put the screws in improperly, and that the tramadol dosing from WCPC was out of the standard range.
Needless to say, we will never go to WCPC again. Mainly because their communication is so poor. They don't return phone calls or emails in a reasonable, timely manner. Their care is substandard. And their vets get in over their heads during procedures that they should clearly refer out to others.
To be fair, and not just another internet whiner: They told us that steps would not hurt our dog. We have minimal steps in our house to go outside, we used them only when the dog had to relieve himself. One time he tripped on the step, perhaps injuring his plates/femur. The rest of the time he was completely immobilized and kept down. Our discontent lies in the fact that WCPC said ""everything is fine"" when his leg had developed a worsening fracture from the plates/screws ripping out.
Honesty and communication go a long ways in gaining trust. WCPC has lost our trust.
Pros: Close to my home
Cons: Poor care as per above
