This place is a hidden gem. I have been eating here for years and recently had them cater my wedding on Lake Michigan and boy did I get the compliments!! This is authentic, husband and wife owned. They moved here from Texas and brought along southern BBQ. Sandman's is good but they have modernized and are no longer a small scale business. This place takes the time to do the ""low and slow"" on their meat and the wife home makes the cornbread and BBQ beans. They Do their BBQ how all the world's best competition people do it, low and slow with no sauce. They give you the choice of sauce to put on it after it is all done, you can truly taste the meat and the juices and add the BBQ sauce of your choice...and it is good enough that the sauce is not absolutley necessary. I have traveled to Kansas City, North Carolina and Tennesse and this beats every place I have been except one in Tennessee. If you are looking for good authentic southern bbq here in michigan, this is the place to go, I would drive from Kansas City just to get it. The average meal is meat and two sides. Plenty to fill you up for around $8-$12.
