Review content:
Bikram Yoga is a set of 26 positions (asanas) that will challenge you physically and mentally. It's a great workout or can be. Be warned though the instructors at the Sandy studio are not all student-friendly and are not terribly tolerant of beginners. Yes, some are very positive and encourage newer students to go slow and ease into the positions, but others clearly focus on their ""favorites"" in the class and ignore everyone else. Worse yet some of the instructors somewhat condescendingly single you out if you are new and not holding the pose just right, which you may not be able to do unless you are double-jointed in the hips. Don't expect to be called by your name unless you are a regular. And ... I wonder if they ever shampoo the carpets ... it smells so bad in the yoga room that it made me sick. The good news is that you can find websites online with the 26 poses and do them at home til you build up your confidence. A true Bikram yogi would swear you have to have the heat for full effectiveness, but I have done the positions without heat and still gained the benefits (toning and losing inches). Bottom line: a great workout for losing weight and gaining mental toughness, but this place is not a positive experience for the yoga beginner, the non-double jointed, and those who have a strong sense of smell.
Pros: Great workout; good opportunity to lose weight and tone
Cons: Room smells bad; instructors may be insensitive to beginners
