Review content:
We've been going to Rosario's for more years than they have been at the current location and even make the effort each time we visit San Antonio since we moved away a few years ago. This last time we went for dinner on two different nights. The first night was great a Tuesday - we got seated right away and enjoyed the Lisa's special (our off-menu favorite) and margaritas with good service. We enjoyed the ambiance sitting by the floor to ceiling windows and open dining area. The 2nd night a Friday (and First Friday to boot) we expected a wait and that was fine with us so long as we were eating at Rosario's! But when we were lead toward a door I had never noticed before which had a narrow, spiraled stairway that lead down into a VERY small low ceiling-ed room that held only 6-8 tables & obviously no windows I was baffled! One table was pushed up against a side wall and used as a make-shift waiter station where things were not kept tidy and the table cloth did not hide the dirty dishes that were stored underneath. The food was still good but suddenly not spectacular and I would not have gone to Rosario's if I had any idea I would be eating in the ugly step-child dining room which incidentally was right underneath the stage where the band played. I normally, highly recommend Rosario's to visitors for the ambiance and beauty but I would never suggest anyone go there if there is a chance they will be lead into the dungeon dining room! The servers were either always right on top of us and yet the service still wasn't great or were no where to be found (unless we treked up the stairs to find them!). About 6 times different individuals came down thinking they were going to find a restroom which actually is upstairs on the main floor. This unfortunate night will make me think twice about renewing my 13 year love of Rosario's next time I want dinner on a busy night in SA. Pros: food Cons: awful basement dining room! :(
