This place is not the facility to take your loved one to treat any form of mild mental issues. I was taken to this facility, which was 60 miles away from my home, without knowing about its' background or programming. Upon my arrival, I was treated like a inmate, in a prison. Patients are shook-down and nearly stripped search. You belongings, ALL OF THEM, are checked. Patients are robbed of items to connect to the outside word...cell phone (with or w/o a camera), computers (there are none on site for pt. use), ability to use a phone (they have three PAY phones that your love ones to call you back on...if there is not a line to do so). You family should be important to one recovery, right? Very wrong at Harbor Oaks Jail...oops, hospital. Visitation hours at three days a three for a one whole whopping hour. And even then, two people max per visit and keep little kiddies at home. No place for them to see Mom, Dad, Sister, Brother...at all. Environment, let's talk about this. Can you say LOW CLASS? My first room, prior to demanding a change had a pt with a issue w/ holding her water :). The bed was pitiful, drawers were broken, drapes were hanging off of their drafters and smelly. Off to the second room. In this case, the roommate was much better but the room itself was still awful. All the same things described above with no lights in the bathroom. I had to recite my rights to a lighted bathroom environment, before they fixed it. No recreational therapy program (except if you call a locked down/fenced in backyard area with a rundown volley/basketball court). Worse, a total of two 20 inch TV's...for up to 28 people. One of the TV's are VCR/CD ONLY, which has a movie library available from 2001 and back. No library to speak of (books are embarrassing, really) ..so, reading your way out of a depression episode, will not work there. Worst and most troubling, patients with SEVERE mental illnesses are placed in the same area (and therapy groups) as patients with depression and/or anxiety diagnosis. This creates a zoo-animal environment, to say the very least. I saw chairs thrown, phones broken, many more issues with human water holding :( in the hallway, experienced threats of my personal safety, heard about threats to others safety daily, fights, food throwing incidents and more. Again, no place to treat MILD FORMS of mental disorders. Severe...yes....MILD....HECK NO! So, this place is very dangerous! Some pt's stay in their room all day, for their safety, seriously! They make money off your stay and force-feeding you drugs. In other words, even if you are a firm believer in ""talk therapy"", you will be MADE (yes, its' against your rights) to take drugs....or you will go to a probate court process. Staff will tell you this in direct threats, many times over. If you don't not want to stay at ""Lockdown Harbor Oaks"" for three weeks waiting for a court process, you will comply....trust me. If you believe, like I do in ""talk therapy"", stay far, far away from this place. Scary....is an understatement. They should be investigated and their state of Michigan license revoked.
