First, let me explain that I brew beer and consider myself relatively knowledgeable on the subject. I'm not a professional brewmaster, however. With that in mind, I think the beer they serve at this place is just plain bad. I ordered their ESB and it had so much diacetyl contamination that it tasted like I was eating a rotted stick of butter. Their pale ale suffered from the same problems, but to a lesser extent. Diacetly is common in ales, but the levels in these beers were WAY over those I would consider acceptable. If I had brewed this beer, it would have gone stright down the drain. This type of defect can be caused by bacterial/fungal contamination in the fermenters or high fermentation temps and no 'rest' period to allow the yeast to consume the diacetyl (i.e.: rushing the beer to the glass before its time). Pros: Atmosphere is OK Cons: Bad beer, poor service and mediocre food
