Backup, backup, backup! Well, what if you don't? Seriously, a show of hands please, how many people actually back up their entire computers on a daily basis? That's what I thought.
My laptop croaked on me, dead as a doornail, and I wanted to recover my old school documents from it. (I mean my documents from school, which happened to be old, not ""old school"" documents like blueprints for the Model-T or something? just wanted to clarify, moving on now).
I took it to Secure Data Recovery Services in Silicon Valley who examined the drive and let me have a list of everything they found. They let me pick and choose what I wanted, and I only had to pay for what I wanted back. They put my documents on a USB stick for me and I took it back so I could start fresh on a new laptop.
They did a great job of recovering the data for me. I'm very thankful and I would recommend them to others.
