Review content:
Local reputable experienced vets say that Pet City is a ""puppy mill"" which sells sick puppies. We bought an 8 and a half week old puppy from this store. He appeared healthy and we received the papers stating he had received his first round of shots and had been checked by a vet. Within 36 hours he became very sick--vomiting, refusing to eat. We took him back and they offered to treat him in the back of their store but the owner of the business delayed treatment. Since we this was an emergency, we left with our sick puppy and took him to a reputable vet. During the following week this puppy was on continuous IV's, worm medicine, 2 IV antibiotics, tamiflu, dextrose injections. After spending $1700. we euthanized him because he was still nauseated, vomiting and suffering. The 5 different vets who treated him all told us we had purchased a puppy from a ""puppy mill"", and warned us to never do this again. Only buy new puppies from reputable breeders, not this store!
The only thing Pet City offers you in a case like ours is that you can give them back the sick puppy and get another animal. We loved this puppy and were worried sick about him. Based on the way the owner of the store was talking, we did not trust this store to care for our puppy appropriately, much less try to save his life. No way would we have coldly handed over this sweet puppy we bonded with and just gotten another one.
Pet City should be shut down immediately because it buys their puppies from puppy mills and does not handle and manage the puppies properly when they are received into the store and kept there. The clerks who worked there were as upset with the man who owns this place as much as we were, when we brought the sick puppy in and asked for help.
Pet City treats the puppies cruelly and like they are objects--just merchandise for a profit with no awareness that each puppy is a little being who can feel pain, fear, and stress. It is awful that places like this exist and that the people who run them make money off of the animals they neglect and abuse. If you love animals, stop patronizing this store.
Cons: inhumane treatment of puppies
