This business is horrible. My son was hired to clean cages and whatever else was required. He had to buy his own PPE and he was demeaned for doing so. The owner said they were not required to provide PPE by OSHA. My son said there are dead animals in a cooler. If the store treats their employees this way, how do you think they are treating the animals? Don't go here. more

VERY SHADY! They will lie to your face and do not mind saying WHATEVER to cover for themselves.\r \r The layaway agreement is very clear... your to pick your dog within 14 days, no exchanges or returns, and no deposits will be returned. \r \r TODAY! March 5th, 2015, a week later we go back to the store to get the dog and thats when they completely dropped the ball. THE DOG IS GONE. In fact, they had no Morkies left or no answer to where the dog was. It was obvious the dog must have been sold but instead of owning to their mistake the OWNERS SON says the dog died. \r \r My husband was extremely upset and saw that the man was lying. We were getting a different story from all of the sales people. The ones in the back with the dogs say they saw our paper work and thought we had picked the dog up already. \r \r The OWNER'S SON goes on to tell me that he did not have my name on the paperwork yet he had a copy of my drivers license, my phone number, and email address. So if the dog had died they should call the customer to tell them their dog has died and so forth. He goes on to tell us their were multiple dogs that had passed within the week and this may have been one of them. \r \r As my husband carries on in the conversation, the sales people become rude once they see we are not accepting this explanation. They questions us on saying why would they lie because it would make them look bad. But truth be told they already look bad. We ask to speak to the manager (which comes in at 8:30) but the OWNER'S SON says he can not do much more than what he can. \r \r We did not find out he was the owner's son until he was on the phone and my husband is listening and says why did you just hang up on your boss like that. He says no thats my mom. Then goes on to telling us FRANK, the co-owner is his Father. With him being the son of the owners I would expect a lot more for him in order to hold up the family business. He wanted to rush us out the store and was willing to say whatever possible to get us out of the store. The only thing he could tell us was the person who sold the dog would be fired. The sales people constantly talk on how the owners watch the cameras and any decent computer system would have a sales history to tell you what and whom sold the dog. It is no huge investigation or guessing game that needs to go on. Its a simple we messed up. Do NOT Lie and say the dog died. \r \r We later get the answers out of the sales lady Heather ... the owner is on the phone accusing her she sold the dog. She corrects the owner saying she did not sale the dog but she did sale a Morkie. In all honesty, I believe Heather as we were trying to sort through the madness on what happened to the dog. She was the only one whom did not agree with the fact they were lying saying the dog was dead. Sadlyl, this resulted in her getting off the phone with the owner, clocking out, and storming out of the store. Heather was the person who did the paper work for us and the ladies in the store remembered my husband for him humorous comments. \r It is horrible how they treat their employees and pets. These people are really more trouble then they are worth. \r \r I look at this situation as a learning situation. After reading the comments, I am happy ended up without a dog from this ""BUSINESS"". Everyone whom purchases a dog from here report some type of health problems and to lie and say a dog had died , shows that is something they deal with on a regular. \r \r UNPROFESSIONAL ! UNORGANIZED ! LIES ! LIES! LIES! DIRTY! UNTRUSTWORTHY! \r My biggest problem is they did not hold up their end of the contract and lied about a dog dying. more

This pet store has been around as long as I can remember. I have never purchased a animal from this store. What I did find to shocking was the price they are asking to sell a Great Pyrenees!! If you are interested in purchasing one don't bye from these guys. They want 1500.00 that's double the price you can purchase here in Texas and around other states they only want 500.00. That is such a rip off!! more

Pet City Houston - Deceitful Liars - BEWARE 2/19/2014

I purchased the Maltese for $850 which is a bit pricey but it didn't matter as long as he had papers and could be registered. I'm very disappointed that I was lied to by the sales woman Samantha. I find out almost 2 weeks later that ACA registration does not mean you can also register with AKC. Now I am stuck with this puppy that I can do nothing with. I want some of my money returned or you can have the dog and refund all of my money. The fact I was deceived does not sit well with me. They don't want to answer the phone and when they do - they are not owning up to the lies that were told. People need to know about PET CITY and it's shady practices . BEWARE! more

I have been shopping at Pet City for many years now and I usually just buy Saltwater and fresh water fish. I have to admit when I walk in I am greeted by their friendly staff! I always browse around the store and see all the animals they have. I also end up looking at the puppies and every time I am in the store the cages are well kept and puppies look happy and healthy. After shopping here for many years I finally broke down and purchased a Yorkie puppy from here. The puppy went to my vet the next day to get a health check up. The vet visit went great and puppy had no issues what so ever. I am very happy with the staff and their knowledge about the puppies and how they really care for the puppies. I would have to admit i am really happy with the service and the puppy i have. They puppy is now 3 months old and is doing wonderful. \r I am very pleased with the purchase I made and I will continue to stay and help this family owned business. I know eventually i will also buy another puppy from them as well. \r Cant wait till Thursday for the next shipment of saltwater fish. \r \r Thanks guys for the great customer service and knowledge of the pets you have. more

Bought my first puppy here 17 years ago. He lived for 13 years. Now have two other puppies from here. One is 4 years old and the other one is 5months. They have been the joy of my life. I would not shop anywhere else. Family owned pet stores are few and far between now. Everything is now large chain stores. more

PUPPY MILL 7/20/2012

HORRIBLE HORRIBLE HORRIBLE!!! purchased a POM from this store $800 adorable little girl, took her home within 5 hours of having her she was having seizures. Not only that she had a TERRIBLE kennel cough. Took her back to the pet store they said it was bc I hadn't feed her. The very next morning I took her to my own vet. My vet was extremely concerned of her seizures and a huge soft spot on the top of her head (she was 4 months) I took her home after the vet visit. By that same evening she had ANOTHER seizure. I took her back the very next day they refused to refund me (yes i did sign a contract- but 5 HOURS SHE WAS HAVING A SEIZURE! no exemption at all) they gave me credit for another puppy which was extremely difficult to finally get ahold, i had to have a screaming match with the owner. All and all it was a terrible situation. PLEASE do not buy a puppy from here. more

2nd on the Puppy Mill 3/7/2012

We purchased a puppy from them and she has been deathly ill ever since we got her. She had pnemonia and they only option they offered is to bring her back and get another puppy. The owner was rude when we spoke with her and her employees stated her husband was just as rude. The employees also stated they have had problems with other animal purchases and how the owners are rude and cruel to other dog owners that have purchased from them. We have no doubt they would have just killed her and we did not want that. I have spent hundred of dollars getting her well from our vet. BEWAREif you purchase an animal from them you need to have the money to get them well or be prepared to bury them. more

I bought a Shiz tsu female puppy from this puppy mill store in January 2006 ... should have know something was wrong when she went into heat at 4 months (likely due to her mother given hormones to have puppies) .. any way she passed away last week of numerous internal problems often seen in puppy mill dogs ..she was less than 6yrs old .. my daugther bought a puppy from this outfit about 2 months ago... it has been sick most of the time more

A horrible place 7/2/2010

Local reputable experienced vets say that Pet City is a ""puppy mill"" which sells sick puppies. We bought an 8 and a half week old puppy from this store. He appeared healthy and we received the papers stating he had received his first round of shots and had been checked by a vet. Within 36 hours he became very sick--vomiting, refusing to eat. We took him back and they offered to treat him in the back of their store but the owner of the business delayed treatment. Since we this was an emergency, we left with our sick puppy and took him to a reputable vet. During the following week this puppy was on continuous IV's, worm medicine, 2 IV antibiotics, tamiflu, dextrose injections. After spending $1700. we euthanized him because he was still nauseated, vomiting and suffering. The 5 different vets who treated him all told us we had purchased a puppy from a ""puppy mill"", and warned us to never do this again. Only buy new puppies from reputable breeders, not this store! The only thing Pet City offers you in a case like ours is that you can give them back the sick puppy and get another animal. We loved this puppy and were worried sick about him. Based on the way the owner of the store was talking, we did not trust this store to care for our puppy appropriately, much less try to save his life. No way would we have coldly handed over this sweet puppy we bonded with and just gotten another one. Pet City should be shut down immediately because it buys their puppies from puppy mills and does not handle and manage the puppies properly when they are received into the store and kept there. The clerks who worked there were as upset with the man who owns this place as much as we were, when we brought the sick puppy in and asked for help. Pet City treats the puppies cruelly and like they are objects--just merchandise for a profit with no awareness that each puppy is a little being who can feel pain, fear, and stress. It is awful that places like this exist and that the people who run them make money off of the animals they neglect and abuse. If you love animals, stop patronizing this store. Cons: inhumane treatment of puppies more

Puppy Palace 5/17/2010

A great place to buy a puppy, they have lots. All are guaranteed so you know you getting a good animal. In fact they hav one of the best guarantees in the business. It is safer to get a puppy from Pet City than it is to get one from a breeders back yard because you know they will be there tommorow if you have any problems (they have been in business 20 years). If youjust go to a breeders house the can decide not to answer your calls are not help you. Pet City is a great place for Healthy Animals! Perfect Puppies! Pros: Healthy animals Cons: needs more employees, to many customers. more

Almost every pet the big store don't have. 2/15/2010

I never expectet to find a real pet store when I walked in to Pet City, but I was suprised. Not only did they have a lot of pets, includeing puppies, But they new what they were talking about! Not like the kids hired at the wharehouse stores that mainly carry dog food instead of pets. Its nice to know that houston has a real pet store! Pros: Lots of Pets Cons: Needs more room for more animals more

Best place for pets 1/30/2010

I have bought multiple pets at pet city and have been given the best in service, even when I was not smart enough to do the right thing. I have never seen animals cared for so well, and the staff went out of their way to make sure I was happy. Not only would I recomend Pet City for a Puppy, I have got my who family to buy puppies from them. Not only that but multiple fish, reptiles and so on for the young ones in our family. Pros: Owners care about the animals Cons: owners are to nice to stupid customers more

Best Help In Houston for Pets! 12/13/2008

I have checked out dozens of pet store's in houston, and pet city by far one of the best. I have bought 3 puppies and 1 kitten from them, and they have been there 24 hours a day to answer my question. My only problem I had was I made the mistake of going to a vet near them called banfield which had the worst eduacated staff I have every seen. The staff at Pet City exceeded the staff at banfield hospital in knowledge! Because banfield is so close to pet city , pet city should post something in their store warning people about banfield, or at least advise people about how poor banfield is at treating puppies. All I know is if I need help with a pet, or a new pet, I call PET CITY! Pros: Lots of knowledge, lots of Pets Cons: near banfield animal hospital more
