Bring your check book! Last fall I took my husband to the ER with stomach pains and uncontrollable vomiting. While being treated with anti-nausea medicine and pain killers, someone from the hospital staff came into the room asking how he would like to pay our insurance co-pay. I was appalled that any hospital would attempt to get a payment out of someone medically not able to make informed decisions. I really hope that practice doesn't go on when people are alone in the ER and don't have anyone there to deal with aggressive billing.
