This is a shameful excuse for a hospital. 2/5/2021

I can only speak for the psychiatric unit. I was taken to the ER during a mental health crisis, and the treatment I endured here was far worse than useless. I was denied food for nearly 12 hours. It took a full day for me to be given a list of rules, and I was yelled at for having belongings nobody told me I couldn’t have. I also have reason to believe a nurse tried to steal my 3DS, considering it was found by another nurse hidden in a drawer and not with the rest of my confiscated items. A different nurse laughed at me for crying when she drew blood out of my hand. I am autistic. Somebody (a psychiatrist?) got outwardly angry at me for having trouble speaking. There was no treatment here whatsoever. I was left in solitary confinement on a rock-hard bed. They believe their mental patients don’t deserve even plastic silverware and somehow expect them to eat oatmeal and applesauce with their hands. The entire unit had only one telephone, and I heard a poor man be told “phone hours” were over when it was finally his turn to call his wife to tell her where he was. He justifiably tried to argue that that didn’t make sense and he was not aggressive. The nurse called cops to come scream at him like he was a criminal. I regularly think about him and hope he’s doing okay. If you want to die, you will be punished for it at Riverside Methodist Hospital. Help is available, but you will not find it here. I survived despite this place, not because of it. more

They hire alcoholics, cigarette and marijuana smokers... 9/8/2019

They won't hire you if you legitimately desire to work there and have experience, but they will hire someone off the street with no experience who doesn't really like the work that they do. They have bed bugs too. more

Useless staff 5/25/2019

I swore never to go to Riverside, and here we are again, because of the closest location. My husband was the patient, still is( he was admitted) Nurses in the ER are incompetent, and could not care less. He was in extreme abdominal pain, that went all the way to his back( sharp pain) throwing up green liquid, wriggling in pain and moaning, still no doctor and no pain meds.after a very long wait. Nurse with the sour face completely abandoned us, I could hear staff chatting at their station, next to our room.I went to them concerned that he may be bleeding inside( an ulcer history), was ordered to go back into the room. How do you tell the PAYING patient that he needed to stay quiet, and that crying out in pain is not the way to get the doctor in, exact words, as if he was doing it for his own amusement! They did not seem to be very busy, the hall was empty with no commotion anywhere. Overall it was bad experience, and even though the wait was a problem, it was expected, it's more about their attitudes. I hope to never see any of them again. more

If your elderly, just die! 6/2/2017

A zero is Riverside's true rating. If you are elderly or have medicare their philosophy is just die regardless of your beliefs. We have been continuously argued with. is after providing written & oral proof of fathers wishes. Literally called multiple times per day. providing proof. Also father was "misinformed" about care and what hospital staff would do. Told he would be feed when they family not to worry, he would be sedated and "wouldn't even know when he stopped breathing & passed away." They even argued about code status when there was a possible future need of it. Finally had administration remove one doctor. They call themselves a "faith based" hospital, but ignore people's wishes. Even went so far as to tell us that regardless of wishes, we could override them. I have NEVER BEEN SO INSULTED BY A HOSPITAL IN MY LIFE. Please if you care about your loved ones, go elsewhere. more

Go anywhere else!!! 5/17/2017

Took horrible care of my father. Disrespected his wishes. Horrible sanitation issues. Deification left in bathroom and dirty bed pans reused without cleaning. Nurses that did not pay attention to serious issues. Monitoring of patients ignored while they sat around central desk discussing other concerns. Leads unattached and never discovered until told. NG tubes improperly and painfully inserted. Doctors that did not communicate, or provided false information. Patients wishes ignored and even attempted to circumvent through others. In conclusion... If your older... Just die. more

on may 7th came in with my hasband with fish bone stuck in his throat pain, they refused to call the e.n.t. doctor, becouse its mother day weekend, and doctors have a life too.i swear on everything that is dear to me that is exactly truth.and if you ask me,than if doctor is on call,he is working, its not a vacation,so he should be called.we left,i honestly did not think that we would get a bill, but we just did for 1.470.oo dollars, and yes we have an insuarance.going to call for an explanation, since all the nurse did was blood pressure check, and temperature check, and we refused to sign consent to be treated since specialist was not coming.thank you for listening, and please excuse my gramma. more

Emergency Room Visit 9/24/2014

One night, my step-son was having trouble breathing all of a sudden. Naturally, we took him to the ER. Upon arrival the 'security' at the desk was talking on the phone and by the sound of it, having a casual conversation that was no work-related. We were not greeted by him, so we proceeded with the metal detector to-dos. Once going through the detector 'security' remained on the line as we stood by the desk waiting for directions on where to go/what to do etc. Finally, he pointed us to the registration area. The staff did not present with a sense of urgency AT ALL. They were sitting in the background chatting. After we were registered, we sat in a open, dull, and cold room (which was not very comforting of a 7yo). We waited as the staff watched us out of the corner of their eyes, yet said nothing about a doctor coming to see us soon or what the next step was. We waited....and waited...and waited some more. All while my step-some was having pretty serious complications breathing. After about 45mins we were taken to a room where a doctor visited us. He looked him over for approx. 3 mins and couldn't find 'anything' wrong. He insisted - more like pressured - into getting all types of x-rays even after he insisted NOTHING seemed out of place or wrong. So we again WAITED for about 1hr for x-rays and the reading of. Surprise-nothing was wrong. When the doctor came back to chat about it all; he was demeaning and asking why we didn't take him to Children's Hospital. We didn't take him there BECAUSE IT WAS AN EMERGENCY and Riverside was the closest. So we left, again with the harsh stares from the staff and lack of customer service. One month later we get a bill for $1700. Suggestion - If it is any type of emergency - especially during PM hours - don't go to Riverside. They're lack of urgency and customer service was enough to sway my opinion - not to mention the $1700 bill received after being pressured into all kinds of x-rays. more

Not what you think it is 11/4/2011

From the outside, people think Riverside Hospital is a high tech and beautiful hospital. It appears to be a place for the "rich" or "upper class" people of Columbus, Please to do not be fooled. I have had two stays there in 35 days for a total of 7 days. My first stay involved surgery and they attempted to give me a medication that I had to fight and argue with them because I knew that I was NOT to take that medication after the surgery. Once the nurse was able to confirm that I was right, she laughed and thought it was amusing. My second stay was because I was having suicidal thought because of body chemical changes from my surgery (complete thyroidectomy), possible cortisol issus, and an unfortunate painful disagreement with my children. When we arrived the the ER, we were meet by a Social Worker who told us that I would be going to the 9th floor ward which was for depression and I was have 24/7 access to be able to take to a social worker or doctor, if need. I meet with a social worker for 20 minutes on 1 day of of the 5. I meet with the meanest, most disrespectful, rude, and nasty psychiatrist (Robert Huestis) who was a true bully. My second meeting with him was that set me back even further in my treatment. I have reported him to the staff and contacted the higher powers to be and they too have been rude. I am now pursuing more harsh matters. Please don't judge a "pretty" exterior of a hospital assuming the inside care will be just as wonderful. For me, I will continue to stick with Mt. Carmel Hospital from this day forward. more

emergency room 6/26/2010

absolutely horible. My daughter had sweats, lower back pain chills. Hospital was told she ha kidney problems her blood sugar was high and she had a temperature. We are still waiting tosee physicial 2.5 hours later. Many people have come and gone while we wait. When asked about problem we were then told that other went o general emergency and hers would be handled in a different emergency dept. Daughter in hreat pain and no help. Very POOR performance. Would have been better to travel 30 to 40 miles away to another health care provider for service. more

A good Hospital 5/16/2010

From the gentle care to the valet parking, the hospital is careful and willing to work for the patient. My mother was well treated, both in the Coronary Unit and the Cardiac ICU. I spent five days watching them care for her and everything was done gently and with great respect. more

Not Good! 9/23/2006

I have mostly bad experiences with Riverside. Most recently, a relative was there in the ER for a full day. She went in because she was weak and feeling faint and was put into a room to wait most of the day. They said she'd need to have some sort of heart scan and were giving her a special fluid every half hour to make her veins/arteries show up better. When the doctor came in right before the scheduled test, he told her she was being released. When she asked about the test, he replied "Oh, that was for someone else." He told her the fluids would flush right out. I am still concerned about what exactly she drank and what kind of effect it might have on her. I'm sure they'll still charge her for whatever it was! Someone else I know went in for a throat infection and they wanted to treat her for cancer. All in all, I would avoid it if at all possible! more

Riverside Emergency Room just so-so 7/25/2006

Recently my sister broke her finger and I took her to Riverside Hospital's emergency room. We actually drove past other hospitals to go to Riverside because we had heard good things. To be fair let me give the pros and the cons. The pros - parking was very easy, the place is very clean and secure, as there is a guard on duty. We had little to know wait at all and everyone from the parking attendant to the nurses was very nice. Now the cons - our intake nurse was very scatter brained and went as far as to put the wrist band on me, not my sister. Also, my sister had 2 wrong reviews of her x-ray before we left and later when she saw a specialist, they told her again that the doctor in the ER should have done something better. Just goes to show that no one place is error free. more

Ok, but not the best 8/21/2005

Riverside is said to be the best maternity center in all of Ohio. I really think they are only second to OSU. I recently had to make a trip to the labor and delivery floor to be checked to pre-tern labor. Because Riverside is said to be the best hospital for labor/delivery, they were so busy! I didn't want to go there, but my doctor was on call there, so we decided it would be best. But, while I was there, I was left in the triage room for several hours at a time with no one coming to check on me. I had to go have my husband go tell the nurse I had to use the bathroom, because no one would answer the nurse call light. It took them 3 hours to tell me that I didn't have a blood clot in my lung, and that everything was ok. I was extreamly upset! The only reason I gave them any stars at all is beacuse when I did see them, the nurses we very nice, and Riverside does have the latest medical equipment if something went wrong! more
