Review content:
The estimate from VW for a new transmission was $2800, without a clutch. Jim at Aamco gave us a quote for 20% less and payed for the tow from VW. He was able to negotiate for a rebuilt transmission for $300 less than his iniitial quote which paid for the new clutch that I ended up needing. He took pictures of everything and e-mailed them to me. I felt that he was very honest and working for both our best interests. The only problems were that he took 3 days longer than he had initially quoted and he didn't reattach the grounding wire from my starter so I was left stranded on the I-5 the next day--but the problem was easily fixed by the local mechanic in Lost Hills. Overall for a rebuilt transmission and new clutch for a 98 VW jetta I spent $2650. Substantial savings over the dealership. Pros: Honest, Friendly, Good prices Cons: Slow, Sloppy mistake
