Idon't even know where to start. I have high expectations that border on unrealistic for salons. I am not an easy customer by any stretch of the imagination. My hair is course, extremely thick, straight on the top, curly underneath, and frizzy all over. I do not excel in communicating what I want the end result of my hair to be to stylists, and I really prefer they just tell me what would look good. I am no peach to work with, and as result of the aforementioned combination, my salon experiences are usually epically bad. EPICALLY. BAD. I found Unruli by searching reviews online and, since I have exhausted all available options in my hometown, I decided to cross my fingers and make the 2 hour trek to Franklin. My first appointment was scheduled with Uli for a Brazilian blowout and cut. The first thing I really noticed about Unruli is how genuinely grateful everyone seemed to be that I made the trip, and how very accommodating and conscious they were of my time. Trust me, I have been to many stylists who act like I owe them a thank you note just for existing. The humility and genuine kindness was not expected, but it was nice. Uli was fabulous from the start, and, even though I had already fully researched the blowout procedure, took the time to explain to me the risks/ benefits without even being asked. Uli’s assistant was also fantastic, and the two worked in tandem to finish the blowout in record speed. Next came the cut. Uli took time to really figure out what I wanted and needed, and together we agreed upon a cut that would look great now and could be grown out over time. It truly was the best hair cut I have ever had. Now, I’ve had cuts in the past that looked good in the salon and then looked terrible everyday after that. The cut I received from Uli looked fantastic on day one and was cut so well that I have had no problem replicating the look on a daily basis at home. After my appointment, Uli took the time to recommend products to me (another plus in my book-I like products), but was never pushy or overbearing, nor did I feel pressured to buy them. The next week, I booked a color appointment with Frazier who is just a ball of fabulous dipped in awesome and coated with fantastic. My hair coloring experiences are no different than my experiences with hair cuts except they are worse. In the same way that it sucks to have me in your chair for a hair cut, it sucks to have me in your chair for a color. I almost define my entire self-worth based on my hair color’s level of fabulous, which is silly and kind of not true, but mostly it is. I have a tendency to describe what color I would like my hair to be with hand gestures. Needless to say, I lived most of my life grumpy. Until, I met Frazier. When I sat in his chair, he asked me what color I wanted. I emphatically threw jazz hands in the hair and wiggled my spirit fingers. Unphased, Frazier asked me a series of questions and managed to extract exactly what I wanted. He showed me a picture just to be sure, and we were off! Frazier worked quickly and the entire process, even though complicated, didn’t seem to take very long. In the end, my hair color was PHENOMINAL! The best color EVAH! And also, AMAZING! I could not believe it was my hair. After my cut and color, I have seriously had total strangers stop me on the street and compliment my hair. My experience at Unruli was the most fantastic salon experience of my life (and I have had a lot, so coming from me – that really should mean something). I will continue to behave like a crazy person and drive two hours to get my hair done at Unruli for as long as my husband doesn’t realize that is what I’m doing!
