I was talked into a ac/heating system check by a guy at home depot. They offered me a good deal and since I had a problem with one of my units, I agreed to them checking it out.
So the tech comes and checks out the unit and tells me the transformer is blown and some relays are bad. Then he goes to his truck and looks up the part. They wanted $281 for the transformer alone. I told him No Thanks, I may be almost deaf, but I'm not stupid. I bought a transformer that is better than the one they offered me (higher rating) for $30, and actually I could have gotten one like they offered me for less than $15. I replaced the transformer and proceded to check out the relays, which were not bad. The unit works great now, and I will never ever use this company as long as I live.
It's not enough that they charge you $100+ per hour (tech wasn't there more than 15-20 minutes) they try to rip you off by getting you to pay 10 times the cost of the part. NO THANKS! They're crooks.
Pros: tech seemed to know a few things, although his diagnosis was partly wrong
Cons: incredible markup when it comes to price.
