On the whole, the cheesesteaks at Pat's, the self proclaimed King, are okay.
They are greasy, they are drippy (spread your legs when you eat them). But they are decent.
The line is always long. The parking is always terrible. The staff are usually pretty short.
But EVERYONE goes there at least once, and ineventually must answer the question for themselves - pat's or geano's. Of the two, I'd take Geano's. Out of all the places you could conceiveably go, I'd go elsewhere.
But when in Philly, do as the tourists do at least once.
