Best

The best cheesesteak in SOUTH Philly, much better than the Jersey residents and big mouth across the street. Pat's has the best rolls, chopped steak and good quality cheese and...

Worst

Pat's is great (if you're not from Philly). Every neighborhood in Philly has a place that's better than Pat's. Unless, it's 3:00 am or you just want to see some cool autographed p...

Legend lives on 10/7/2007

My Mom used to take us to Pats every Friday night back in the early sixties. Back then you could get a bag of steak sandwiches for a song and eat them right there on the corner. Nothing has changed except for the date. Today when you go to Pat's it's great food and great memories. You can't get that at just any place ! Rob D. Fort Dodge, Iowa more

They're all the same. 3/23/2007

Yes they're good. But really -- there is little difference between this and something you'll get on the street or in a deli. The hype-factor for this place is almost off the scale. more

Yummy! Could be cheaper though... 4/16/2006

Went here on my trip to Philly -- compared it with Geno's. Though both were good and similarly priced (about $6.50 per cheesesteak), I liked Pat's better. I went there on a weekday at around 5pm and the neighborhood was kind of sketchy (about 3 homeless guys asked me for money) but I guess that adds to the authentic feel? Haha. Definetely check this place out for an authentic cheesesteak, and try Geno's across the street! more

The King of All Stakes 4/12/2006

Pat’s on 9th and Passyunk is the King of all steaks and the cheese fries are not bad either. Who would think that chopped meat and potato’s bathed in chez whiz would taste good? For five bucks and you too can find out. I used to go to Pat’s when the area was a little sketchy. Today the neighborhood is different but Pat’s is still King. And as always never go at 2:00am unless you want to wait in line. more

Very good 3/19/2006

Pat's cheese steaks are delicious and definitely in the top two. The classic Philly fight is over Geno's or Pats...and some will ask Jim's. In my opinion the cheesesteak itself at Pat's is perfection since they give you so much and the flavor is great but the rolls are just ok. You will definitely not go wrong here but they are not my fav. more

Pat's is no.1 2/26/2006

Pat's steaks is probably the best possible place to grab a cheesesteak in the city. Eat there and you will know why. In fact, you could eat there any time you want since Pat's in open 24 hours a day. Sometimes the line is huge but you'd be surprised at how fast the service is, and for what you get, you can't find a better price. more

Pat's is the best. 2/5/2006

Pat's Steaks is the better of the two famous Philly steak places at 9th and Passayunk. Open 24 hours a day, the staff is quick and friendly, and the prices are better values than at the competition. The lack of gaudy signs that blind you from a block away actually adds to the atmosphere, as you don't feel like you're eating in some futuristic space station where they use lights to keep ghosts away. Plus, their actual meat and rolls just plain taste better. more

Pat's King of Steaks! 1/16/2006

Going to Pat's King of Steaks in Philadelphia is something every visitor to Philly should do at least once. It's a tradition. This is the place where all my college friends have to go to when they come back to visit Philly. And even though the steaks aren't the best in Philly and I prefer Geno's across the way, going to Pat's is quite an experience. Going late night is the best way to experience Pat's! more

Best Steaks in Town 10/13/2005

Meat is juicy, the whiz flows like water and the taste is superior to the rest. has that great philly feel to the place. more

Wonderful! 10/6/2005

This is a definite must if you are visiting Philly! I lived in the city for a year and visited Pat's often. Anytime family members would come out to visit, a trip to Pat's was required. The cheese steaks are wonderful. Expect a wait, as they're usually busy, but it's worth it! I do miss this place! more

A Tourist Spot more than anything else... 10/3/2005

If you are visiting Philly you will undoubtedly try Pats. They are ok, the lines are long although they move fast. The sandwiches are good, nothing to write home about if you live in the area you know of some neighborhood place that is awesome most likely. I like Geno's a little better, but I love others way more than both of these! more

no better than genos. 9/14/2005

i think pats steaks is horrible. it is all hype. First of all the location is quite far from center city. Once you get there, you might be impressed with the layout, but dont be mistaken. The meat is rubbery and the cheese is like cheeze wiz. The steak doesnt have much taste. I found the food to be expensive. There is no seating area either. My pick for philly cheesesteaks is the Greek Lady on Upenn's campus. Stick with them! more

In the mood for a cheesesteak 9/9/2005

Pat's Steaks is a well known institution in South Philly. It is quite popular because it is open 24 hours a day, serving cheesesteaks at all hours. A cheesesteak from Pat's is just that... greasy steak and cheese that drips. If you live in Philadelphia you should experience Pat's at least once. If you're a tourist then you will probably get there... if you plan wisely. And be careful as to what you wear because Pat's does make a mess. more

You can't be in Philly and not stop here! 8/29/2005

It's an American Instiution...or at least a Philadelphia Institution. Pat's is Philly cheesesteaks. It's got the ambiance of Philly, the best cheesesteaks (especially with wiz!) and lots of personality. If you're in Philly, stop by and get yourself the REAL philly cheesesteak. Pat's has all varieties of cheesesteaks in case you are bored with the original. Parking is on the street. more

If you like greasy and touristy, here's your place 8/29/2005

On the whole, the cheesesteaks at Pat's, the self proclaimed King, are okay. They are greasy, they are drippy (spread your legs when you eat them). But they are decent. The line is always long. The parking is always terrible. The staff are usually pretty short. But EVERYONE goes there at least once, and ineventually must answer the question for themselves - pat's or geano's. Of the two, I'd take Geano's. Out of all the places you could conceiveably go, I'd go elsewhere. But when in Philly, do as the tourists do at least once. more

Wow. 8/28/2005

Having lived in Philly for four years, I have sampled most of the well known cheesesteak places (geno's, jim's, daellesandro's, steve's, abner's, etc.) and Pat's still is my favorite. While many think it is taboo to call this supposed tourist trap great, when it is firing on all cylinders it is truly mouth watering. A whiz with on a nice summer night is almost an unbeatable expreience, both for the food and the atmosphere. more
