Review content:
I've been to De Tapas many times mostly because I like the sangria so much. I've ordered the Paella Valencia several times, and I've had good and not-so-good experiences, depending on who's in the kitchen. Sometimes the rice is very nice and crisp at the bottom and the meat is seasoned just right, and other times the rice is too wet and does not even taste like paella was cooked in the pan that it was served in. The paella seems to be better during lunch, probably because it's not as crowded and they have more time to properly prepare it.
I RECOMMEND: Sangria--I have always served excellent sangria, but sometimes they put too much ice! Totilla Espanola (Spanish potato omelet)--nice flavor and not too salty. Calamares Fritos (kind of hard to mess up fried calamari, but still very good). Calamares En Su Tinta (calamari in black in sauce)--despite the black color of the sauce, the slightly salty, subtle taste goes well with the small side of rice that come with it. Boquerones Fritos (small fried fish)--good choice if you like whole bite-size fish, and the portion is generous for the price. Gambas Al Ajillo (shrimp in garlic)--nice garlic flavor, but tends to be a little oily. Almejas A La Marinera (clams in white wine sauce)--one of my favorites, but I wish they give you more clams. Once they served me 2 closed clams, which is unacceptable for a restaurant. Food overall is good.
Very loud and busy on weekend nights, especially when they have live music and dancing. Service is not the best, only because they don't have enough staff on crowded nights. The setting is very casual. Although the paella is not consistently good, I still enjoy the food at De Tapas and will come back.
Pros: Out of all the different sangrias from different restaurants, they have the best sangria!!!
Cons: Paella is not consistently good.
