My husband and I went to Gasho in Hauppauge on Feb. 22, 2008. We both have worked in the restaurant industry, albeit on the corporate side, and have a good working knowledge of restaurant cleanliness - this place was the antithesis of clean. The restrooms were dirty, which is the first sign of a mismanaged restaurant. The floors displayed a dozen or more green peas, used chopsticks, dirty baseboards, etc. Nothing had been cleaned from the previous guests, or several previous guests. Then, we had the unfortunate experience of sitting directly next to the chef and his cart. The carts of food were disgusting... bowls of vegetables mixed with raw eggs were stacked on top bowls of raw chicken (God only knows where they have sat the bottoms of these bowls which were directly touching our food). The bean spouts were overflowing on a metal plate and it was stacked on top of the cleaning cloths for the cooking surface which were on a similar metal plate, inevitably some of the sprouts were touching the rags. The utensils had food on them when the chef arrived, not cleaned from the previous table, and when not in use the utensils were placed amongst printouts of orders (several tables worth). A few other things worth noting.... My husbands chopsticks were moldy - no joke, green mold. When a piece of chicken or steak fell on to the table (not the cooking surface) the chef picked it up and placed it on the person's plate and the edges of the table closest to the cooking surface were old and dirty. The desert menus were greasy and had food particles on them. As far as taste goes, the food tasted alright, nothing fabulous. However, it is no surprise that both my husband and myself were sick that night from our dinner - I won't go into detail on that. Needless to say we won't be returning.
