I went to the Emergency Room and was told that my wound was minor and that they wanted to charge me $1k for stitching up a cut on my foot and taking x rays. Since I don't have insurance I decided to leave.
The next day when I changed my bandage, I noticed that the cut was worse and decided to look for a doctor to treat my deep cut. So I called around to local GPs in the area and was generally told that I would have no choice but to go back to the Emergency Room b/c GPs don't stitch. I then called a local plastic surgeon's office and was told that they can't help me and to look for an Emergency care clinic on the web.
I was glad that I did because I found First Med on the internet and called. They told me that the cost of caring for the wound would be about $250, a quarter of the cost of hospital treatment and probably a lot less time.
I went and waited about 45 min before I was treated. Staff was extremely pleasant and professional. The facilities are great even though slightly outdated. When I was brought in, the nurse cleaned my wound and then the doctor stitched up. The doctor then gave me antibiotics, instructed me to come back in 2 days to remove the stitches and 10 days to follow up visit. The $250 includes all the visits, the treatment and the meds. Even if I went to the Hospital I probably would have to pay for the meds and maybe follow up care and wait ridiculous long hours.
First Med is a great place. I highly recommend it and am so thankful for their care. If I didn't find them I probably would have a badly scarred up foot.
