Ames Animal Shelter is one of the best-run shelters I have ever seen. This is probably partly due to the acclaimed veterinary school in town. Their facility, though small, is always kept very clean and the animals are well cared-for. Their adoption fees are rather low, but they don't mandate spaying or neutering of animals in their facility. There is always a wide selection of cats of all ages and they also have the occasional bunny or iguana on hand.
