For Des Moines, the Civic Center has a large variety of entertainment options throughout its season. You can have a choir tour one week and an off-Broadway musical the next. We've also seen several comedians there, too. It's a great place to go for a nice evening out. I suggest getting seats in the A section, as that takes up the first 2/3 of the auditorium. I've sat in the back row for a performance, and although you CAN see, it's such a different experience sitting front and center for a show.
