Awful. Will never go back! 10/6/2007

Write your review here. I Dr. Adams when I had a sudden toothache. The office was great about fitting me their schedule. Gorgeous office. Every new technology one can imagine. Once I got in the very nice dental chair, the 'selling' began. While waiting for my full mouth xrays to be developed, I was immediately told I needed to buy an electric toothbrush, which they had available and could pick up before I left the office. There were placards everywhere advertising this toothbrush. I could not understand why I had to have this very expensive! set of full mouth xrays done, because I only had a problem with one tooth. Then Dr. Adams appeared and proceeded to tell me that I would probably have to have a multitude of dental procedures done based on my xrays. I came in for the purpose of having him look at one tooth. The selling never stopped. At that point I explained to him that I had a mother that had cancer and a father that had just died of Alzheimers and right now, just needed to get this tooth taken care of. I had hoped, he would be compassionate enough to understand that I was not in the mood, nor did I have the time, for his upselling lecture. He said he was sorry to hear that. And continued with, "But........and continued to try to intimidate me. At that point I just asked if he could help me with this tooth. Today. He said yes, scheduled an appointment for the next Wednesday and I returned to have the tooth extracted. I had decided at this point to let him finish dealing with this problem, and would really question him about all these procedures the next time I went in. The most striking comment and response to my questions was regarding root planing. He said he'd have to refer me to a periodontist, but they could do the root planing here at his office. The cost? About $900 for each quadrant of my mouth. After further questioning about the procedure, he then stated that however, once I got to the periodontist office, they (the periodontist) might have to repeat the procedure. I was agahst!! Repeat the procedure!?! Why? He said that the periodontist might have to do things a little differently that what they (Adam's office) had done. At this point, I looked at him and said, "Then why, if there is a chance that this procedure would have to be done TWICE!, don't you just leave the root planing up to the periodontist? He looked at me and said, "I really don't have a good answer for that." Well, it was quite obvious at that point, that the reason for this is money. He was very happy to take the opportunity to do a procedure and then refer it out to be done again. Couple this with the immediate sales pitch for electric toothbrushes, big time xrays for one tooth, the scare techniques and lack of empathy, all made for a very frightening experience. He's got a beautiful office. Great high tech equipment. A wonderful location in North Raleigh and he's got to pay for it somehow. Beware of this guy. He's slick. Great bedside manner, but be careful. By the way. He did a fine job of extracting my one tooth. The bill? $700. For one tooth. And of course, full mouth xrays. I'll never go back and will give a heads-up to anyone who will listen. He is shameful. more
