What a Steak! 7/11/2005

Daniel's Broiler sits nearby rival Ruth Chris' Steakhouse, so I can't help but compare them and decide they're similar enough that they may share a kitchen (though I have no proof of this). The Bellevue location has a rather nice view of the surrounding downtown area and lake, and is a great place to eat. It's a bit pricy, but the cuts are excellent and rather sizable. Unfortunately when I went the waiter was rather curt and not very good at his job. Kind of surprising for a place which is excellent in every other way. It being my first time he didn't introduce the resturaunt at all. He also didn't mention they put steak butter on all their food -- being lactose intolerant it would have been nice to know this so I could have requested my steak without it. The food all came out overcooked, as well -- every steak was at least one notch too cooked, some two or three. Again, a shame to ruin such good beef. Since the waiter didn't write anything down, and seemed a bit befuddled during our ordering process (we asked a few questions), I'm not sure who to blame on this. I do know he never asked how we liked our food though. Upon mentioning to him (at the end of the meal, I ate my steak anyway) he should mention the butter, he simply said "that's just how we prepare all our steaks here, so I don't feel it's worth mentioning". The cuts definately do have potential, if the kinks get worked out. more
