I've been to Buck's Place twice & both times were disappointing. The first time I ordered chicken because the steaks were so overpriced; the chicken was dry & tasteless but the service was what really got me steamed. The restaurant was almost empty, even though this was on a Friday night (warning!), but our waitress took forever to come to the table & was MIA for most of the meal. If they'd been busy that's fine, but there were only a few other customers!
My second visit was nearly as bad. This time my wife & I went on a Saturday night & it was still almost empty! Country's Barbecue next door was full & so was every other restaurant in town, but not `Guaranteed good ten times out of ten` Buck's Place! I ordered a hamburger steak because I was now leary of the quality of their food so I wouldn't pay their outrageous prices for a steak that might not be good, but these people don't even know what a real hamburger steak is! Not only does it not come with either onions or gravy (sacrilege in the south) but they don't even have them! NO onions OR gravy for a hamburger steak. In the south. To my surprise it was actually good, with ketchup. My wife ordered beef tips, well done, without the `gunpowder seasoning.` The resulting dried-out jerky wasn't entirely the restaurant's fault, but it was absolutely tasteless. No charcoal flavor at all, as if it had been scraped out of an oven by people who'd never tasted a steak before. My wife sent it back because it was so tough, which I thought was more her fault than Buck's, but the replacement order wasn't much better & it still didn't have any taste. To their credit, Buck's Place didn't charge us for our meal, which was very nice considering the way my wife ordered her food, & the service this time was very good. Even though this time was better I still won't go back to Buck's Place again. Everybody told me how great it was but the emptiness of their restaurant tells me that I'm not the only one to see how overrated & overpriced they are.
