This jewel of a theater calls itself a music hall but it's so much more. Located in the riverfront town of Tarrytown, the 840-seat Music Hall has been the celebrated venue of artists from every musical and entertainment genre. Rock, jazz, folk, pop, R&B, comedy, drama, dance--an amazing collection of talent have performed here to the delight of guests who come from the tri-state region to enjoy a concert or performance. Designated as a national landmark, the Music Hall is a well established center for the performing arts.
Built in 1885, the Music Hall is remarkably and capably run by a group of dedicated volunteers who are passionate about the preservation the building as a vital member of the arts community.
One of the most popular events are the Golden Oldies nights. Back in the day rock & roll and doo wop hits from the 50's and 60's are performed by live bands. The Music Hall is also home to a number of terrific musical performances for children--these are eagerly anticipated by local groups and are very well attended.
My fondest Music Hall memory includes an evening with Tony Bennett here in the late '90s. Bennett sang without a microphone because he felt the acoustics in the building were great enough to carry his voice. He was right.
