Red Apple Rest 3/29/2006

THIS PLACE HAS SINCE CLOSED. I wish I had a better review of the Red Apple Rest. It is a landmark spot on Orange Turnpike (the road that runs parallel to the NYS Thruway) in a small town called Southfields (which is part of Tuxedo). The Red Apple Rest was the stopping point on our journey to camp in the Adirondack Mountains. It was a happening place and we eagerly looked forward to stopping for lunch and ice cream on our trip "upstate." In later years and now, it has become a sad eye sore and locals lament that "wish something could be done to bring it back." It is still a restaurant serving hot and cold meals and soft drinks. I've only had coffee here and at best it was passable. The decor is long overdue for a makeover and the atmosphere is dark and foreboding. Sad...this could once again be a hot spot in an area that's dying for something different. more
