So Authentic it Hurts! 6/29/2005

The restaurant is small and cramped, with little tables and inexpensive furniture, an advertisement for Mexican beer and a couple of small paintings decorate the walls, and you purpose the menu, wondering if you dare to ask what "menudo" is (you don't) or what "horchatas" is (you do!). But then you get to the counter and place your order, are surprised by how little it costs, then sit down to wait and sip your horchatas (a Mexican drink made from rice, sugar and cinnamon, in case you were wondering--served ice-cold and delicious) A few minutes later, they call your number and present you with a heavy bag full of food, along with a package of fresh, warm chips and some of their own salsa...and your day is better. Half an hour later, you are wondering if you will ever need to eat again. You put the half of your food that you couldn't finish in the fridge, to have for lunch the next day. Around midnight, you go back to the fridge and take the food back out, and decide that you might have just a LITTLE more room...you can always have tuna for lunch. more
