Use Caution when purchasing from Walmart toy department 12/18/2006

My complaint for Walmart is directed toward the organization, not specifically Walmart in Wake Forest, although there you'll find the usually long lines, unless you go after midnight, and average customer service. I bought my daughter's Step 2 Lifestyle kitchen from Walmart because it was the best price around. Well, after a long ordeal with assembly problems and confusing instructions, and conversations with Step 2's customer service dept., I learned that the reason the instructions didn't make sense is because, according to the rep from Step 2, Walmart asked the company to remove features like the microwave buttons that are supposed to beep when pressed, the stove that is supposed to sizzle when activated, etc. So what you get instead is hollow pieces that have a place for batteries, but no ability to put batteries in and use in the intended way. Walmart Corp asked Step 2 to do this so they could sell the kitchen cheaper, but Step 2 didn't change the instructions or picture/description on the box. If Walmart Corp lowered the value and quality on this toy, I wonder what other toys they've tampered with. I do not make purchases such as this from Walmart anymore. So it seems, you get what you pay for. more
