Site of the largest Civil War engagement in Loudoun County 6/25/2005

The park surrounds Ball's Bluff National Cemetery where records indicate that 54 soldiers are buried. The Southern victory at Ball's Bluff, the Union retreat into the Potomac River and the battle carnage made the Washington, DC, public aware of war’s reality. Hiking trails and interpretive signs aid in understanding this important and tragic part of American history. From May to October, free weekend tours are held at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. on Saturdays and at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. on Sundays. Guides lead visitors over easy walking terrain and present facts about the battle, its significance in U.S. history and the personalities of the Union and Confederate leaders. The park is open year-round from dawn to dusk. Directions: take Route 7 west toward Leesburg, then Route 15 Bypass north. Turn right on Battlefield Parkway and left on Ball's Bluff Road. The park is located at the end of the street. more
