Dr. Leon Smith at Valdosta Family Medicine, who is a principal shareholder in the medical corporation, cares only about how much money he can get from patients and insurance NOT each individual's health. After I survived a severe traumatic brain injury and six weeks at Shands Trauma Center in Gainesville, Fl. Dr. Smith, who had been my primary care physician for almost 10 years refused to see me after my accident from January until July when he saw an opportunity to benefit financially. He referred me to a therapist in HIS medical corporation at Valdosta Family Medicine who was NOT in my insurance network, so the initial cost was too prohibitive since I was on long term disability and had not worked in over seven months. After only one 10 minute visit seven months after my accident, Dr. Smith decided that I only wanted his help to stay on disability, so instead of treating me or completing an updated prognosis for my insurance, he dismissed me as a patient after charging my personal injury attorney $600.00 for a brief doctor's note of my current condition (which I never saw). I am currently back at work and under the care of three specialists who have my best interest at heart--real doctors NOT opportunists!
