work trauma 6/24/2005

I was actually referred to this counseling center by my old employer. There had been some traumatic incidents occurring at my place of work, it had become very dangerous. So, my manager gave me the information for the company hotline for crisis. They then gave me the address to this facility. The sessions were long, about an hour each. I went for about 5 sessions. The counselor that I saw emphasized that she was a psychologist, not a psychiatrist. The difference is that a psychiatrist has a doctorate degree and can legally prescribe medication while a psychologist just has a masters in psychology. The sessions were helpful, I felt much better venting out my fears and concerns to an understanding and educated party. The counselor gave me 7 basic life rules to follow and advised that I empower myself to reduce the anxiety I felt at work. more
