Wonderful and safe place to learn massage 10/1/2006

So, I've wanted to learn the healing art of massage since I was about 5 and I met my first massage therapist. Now I'm 34 and finally doing it and was pretty nervous about it, to be honest. My first day there, I could tell that the staff really cared about what they did and making sure that the true essence of massage techniques were taught. They believe and teach that the mind can help the body and when the mind is at peace, healing can be much more effective. I also love that they aren't too clinical or too "spiritual." They teach a very balanced view of massage and make the students feel they are embarking on something that can actually help make the world a better place. I know that sounds cheesy, but it's really not. The space the staff make for the students is so supportive and informative, you really miss the peace you feel when you're not there. One thing I really love is a general philosophy of "everything is a stoke." Okay, so don't get all perverted on me, now. It's not THAT kind of school at all! It's really about making sure that you're mindful in everything you do and make each action, from greeting your client to ending the session, consciously. A fellow student compared it to the ancient art of the Japanese tea ceremony. Making each movement one of purpose and art. If you've every thought about getting into the field of massage therapy and wanted to know which school to attend in LA, I highly recommend this one. Their intro course is only $1600 for 150 hours so it's also budget conscious. Oh, and yes, you can get a license with that in cities throughout LA. more
