I miss Hawaii every day, now that we live in Florida. I miss the beautiful scenery, the weather and the wonderful people who live in the islands. And I miss the Original Pancake House.
This was our regular stop after church every Sunday, and if I could get there other days, I did. This place is hoppin' and you may have to wait a while to get in but it's worth it.
The owners and the staff are just top-notch. When one of our friends was leaving the islands, we all met there for a farewell breakfast, and the owner treated our whole table to breakfast. Can you say "aloha"? I miss the banter between the customers and the wait staff, too.
Gosh, better talk about the food. It's all good. They have a big, puffy Dutch pancake that comes out in a big pan, steamy and full of fresh apples and korintje cinnamon. It's this attention to quality that makes the food here so very good. The fluffy pancakes get their lightness from the batter, which is lightly fermented first. Or try the crepes or Swedish pancakes with lingonberries. The Belgian waffles are the best I've had anywhere. Dip the thick-sliced bacon in a bit of the syrup on your plate and enter nirvana.
If pancakes etc. aren't to your liking, try their eggs, which are fresh, served hot, perfectly cooked and buttery tasting. Choose from a variety of toasts. The wait staff never lets your coffee cup run dry.
Enjoy your meal in the loud and convivial dining room, or sit outside to eat -- that's our favorite. Enjoy the original Pancake House. Wish I could be there with you!
