A Varied Menu 12/4/2005

Bruce's, on Middleneck Road, in the heart of Great Neck, is one of many fantastic restaurants you will find on Long Island's fabled North Shore. This restaurant can best be described as a diner/deli. The menu is large and is open for all meals during the day. Next to, and part of, the restaurant is a fabulous looking bakery which also has Sugar free items. It is very difficult to walk past the bakery without wanting to try a dozen different things. I have eaten at this restaurant twice and have had some good experiences. Bread, in the form of Challah (served on the Jewish Sabbath) is brought to the table. I would recommend the Matzah Ball Soup. I have tried 2 chicken dishes, the first one was on the bone, the second one, off the bone. The on the bone one was definitely much juicier and much more enjoyable then the second, which in my opinion was quite dry and I needed to put ketchup on it. The menu is very affordable and the meals include a choice of soup, potato, vegetable, and a small variety of deserts at the end. The desert is a small plate of like 6-7 different items ranging from a cookie to a small piece of cheesecake. This place can be crowded at times. more
