It is great to have a movie theater in town. We used to have to drive to TC or Baybrook to catch a movie. That translates into not going to movies unless you wanted the great production of leaving the island. For a local to leave the island, you wash the car, and the dog, put on the Sunday best, fill up the tank, empty the bladder, buckle up, books for the kids and then we are off. Notify a good friend where you are going before you hit the causeway.
So having a local theater is a BIG DEAL. The employees are friendly and ready to help any time. They reall keep the place clean, the counter are not cluttered, the bathrooms are nice and smell good, the floors in the theaters do try and take your shoes off with every step!
The popcorn and soda is good, the Large's are re-fillable. You can even put as much butter on your popcorn yourself with a DIY butter machine.
The seats are really comfortable and if you are one of those that moves around watching a movie or if you jump when startled, it really is nice not being jostled every time your viewing partner moves. There is not a bad seat in the house, unless there is a 7 foot giant with an afro, you can see the screen. Big Plus!
The screens are a good size and do not distort the movie, the sounds is surround sound, at least it feels like it.
When I get a day off during the week I like to go to the matinée starting at 11am, there is no one else there, you can sit right in the center and enjoy a movie in what feels like a private theater for only 4 bucks. What a feeling!
I was just at the premiere of "Pirates" Friday night, the first showing was sold out so we bought tickets for the next show and went to get something to eat, came back 10 minutes before it started, it was still packed, we went in a got a seat and then someone went back out and got the drink and popcorn and still got in before the previews started. I did want to see something flashy for the premiere, like a pirate running around would have been cool. This is, after all, Galveston!
If you are in Galveston, stick around a catch a movie!
