Mid-Carolina Obgyn 6/18/2007

For about 4 years I have been going to Mid-carolina. I had no problems. But when I got pregnant, it seemed that that care I got being diabetic was horrible. Their office is listed as high risk. Once I confirmed that I was pregnant, about 2 weeks later I saw the mid-carolina who handles pregnancy counseling. I asked the nurse if I could be ectopic or having a miscarriage because I was having sudden severe cramping. The nurse (name began with a B.) told me my cramping was normal and not to worry about it. I should have known this women was not trained when she asked me what A1C meant. The next day I woke up to find that I had bled and probably miscarried. I called their office to see if I could come in, and they asked if I could come in later because they were busy. I came in anyway and waited for 30 minutes. I saw Dr. Woodruff who was not my normal doctor. I had an ultrasound and was told I miscarried. The information was just matter of fact, no counseling or even suggestion of what to do next. There was no information regarding what to do, what would happen with the tissue that was possibly remaining and no followup. I bled for 5 weeks and passed the sac about 2 weeks after I was told I miscarried. I called their office a total of 11 times (I have phone records of the calls) to ask if it was normal and if I should come in. The nurses told me that bleeding for 5 weeks was "normal" and different for each woman. I reminded her I was diabetic and at risk for infection and this could cause fertility problems later. I was told I would get a call back, and was never called back. At a later call, When I suggested that tissue may still be left the nurse asked me if I was a doctor, and how I would know this. The internet is a great way to get information! At that point my husband I just walked in that morning and said we would wait to see a dr. They ran the hcg test to see if any tissue was remaining. Of course when I saw my doctor (Dr. Stephens - great doctor, bedside manner), she asked why I was not seen before and why I did not come in earlier for the followup pregnancy test. Of course, there was tissue remaining and it was solved for a simple shot. 4 days later my bleeding stopped. The miscarriage was no fault of their office, but there was no followup care. Their office can handle non serious matters but if you are high risk I reccommend the Atrium. We complained to Dr. Stephens about the nurses and the information they gave us and she said she would talk to the administration. I don't know if anything has changed but once I found out I was pregnant again, I did not want to take a risk. more
