Marie Callenders Restaurant 11/26/2006

The food at Marie Callenders is VERY good. Their potato cheese soup is a for-sure-gotta-order it item every time I ever get to go. In fact, sometimes I dream about their potato cheese soup! All that rich thick cream, butter, potatoes and cheese, oh my! I have several favorite menu items that I like. I am not sure how often they have it but sometimes they have Beef Stroganoff. Unless they have changed their menu in the past year or so, this did NOT used to be a regular menu item but was an occasional special. It was great. Just the right amount of beef, mushrooms in gravy with noodles and a blob of sour cream to mix in. Not many places make a good beef stroganoff but Marie Callender's can do it right! Another menu item that I like is the Mushroom Artichoke chicken. You can get it with either rice or pasta. It's good both ways. There's a chicken breast with mushrooms and pieces of artichoke heart. It is canned artichoke which is not as good as fresh but still, it is good. I love their chicken pot pie. The filling is yummy with gravy, chicken, carrots, peas, and the crust is very flaky and tasty. It also comes with a piece of their famous cornbread. Then of course I like to round out my meal with my favorite pie which is sour cream apple. It tastes a lot better than it sounds. There is no sour cream flavor, its quite sugary plus they sprinkle strudel on top [combination of chopped nuts and brown sugar]. The prices at Marie Callender's are comparable to other nice restaurants like The Olive Garden and Bill Lee's Chinese. I have found that most restaurants are all comparable in price. I prefer the Marie Callender's that is on California Ave. because it is only a mile from our house!! more
